Slide through the years. The canopy you grow meets the climate of the year you choose.
The Critical Zone is the thin living skin of the Earth, from the treetops to the bedrock (Arènes, Latour & Gaillardet 2018, Giving depth to the surface). The atmosphere runs fast; the subsurface runs slow. Tap a cell to read it.
Traits are qualitative game parameters, grounded in common urban-forestry behaviour (Tilia and Crataegus feed pollinators, Sorbus berries feed birds, Platanus over-shades narrow canyons). They are not measured field data. Neighbourhood effects follow Schelling's checkerboard (Schelling 1971): packing one species into a local patch breeds discontent (a red ring), so it thins and a diverse mosaic self-organises across the seasons.
